Lutheran worship is centered in Word and Sacrament.
It is the celebration of what God has done for us.
The liturgy is the order of service used each week. While generally standard in format, some portions vary by church season. Participation of the congregation is integral to Lutheran worship. Worship service is the means by which we offer praise to our God, ask for forgiveness of our sins, known and unknown, and proclaim the Gospel. The service includes prayers and scripture readings taken from seasonally appropriate Bible verses. The music prelude helps us prepare for the worship service. Members of the congregation participate in leading the service as assisting ministers and readers.
The church year is divided into five seasons. Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and the largest season, Pentecost. The color of paraments on the communion table are determined by the church season.
Pastor Hammond presides over the worship service and conducts the eucharist. The weekly eucharist includes both wine and bread, the blood and body of our Lord.
The Congregation actively participates in the eucharist (communion), responsive prayers, singing and silent intercessions.
Greeters are the first persons to welcome guests and members to the church. They offer the bulletins and as appropriate communion cups to use during the service. They can answer questions about the order of service.
Ushers provide direction in the sanctuary by guiding members or visitors as they enter the sanctuary, during communion and assisting with the offering.
Assistant Ministers share in leading the service by assisting with distribution of the communion elements, reading prayers and presenting other portions of the liturgy.
Lectors read the lessons for the day during the worship service.
The Altar Guild prepares the church for the service. They change the paraments to be seasonally appropriate colors. They place flowers around or behind the communion table.
Worship Assistants participate in the service as ushers, greeters, assistant ministers, communion assistants, lectors and Altar Guild members. You can volunteer to serve by contacting the church office.
Eucharist Ministers are trained to offer communion to our shut-in members and those who are unable to attend church for an extended period of time. They bring communion and prayers to the member and share God's love. If you would like to be part of this ministry contact Pastor Hammond.
