PRAYERS AND DEVOTIONS

The Power of Prayer

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

A Morning Prayer

I thank you, Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ your dear Son, that you have protected me through the night from all danger and harm. Preserve and keep me through this day also, from all sin and evil that in my thoughts, words and doing I may serve and please you. Let your holy angel be with me in all that I do today. Amen

An Evening Prayer

I thank you Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ your dear son, that you have brought me graciously through this day. Forgive my sins and wrongdoing both known and unknown to me, and by your great mercy protect me from peril and danger. Let your holy angel be with me through this night. Amen.

A Prayer Before Meals

Dear Lord, thank you for this food. Bless the hands that prepared it. Bless it to our use and us to your service, and make us ever mindful of the needs of others. Through Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.

A Prayer for Today

Dear God, Help me to offer:

My hand to one who needs friendship;

My heart to one who needs love;

My understanding to one who needs a listener;

My thoughtfulness to one who needs to know that he is remembered;

My gentleness to one who is buffeted by the circumstances of life;

My companionship to one who is lonely;

My tranquility to one who is confused, uncertain and unsure;

My comfort to one who is bereaved;

My kindness to all of Your creatures;

My compassion to all living things.

Dear God, help me to let my light shine. Amen

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We pray give us each an awareness of your mercies that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips but also in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service. Amen.

A Prayer for Courage

Almighty God, we have celebrated with joy the festival of our Lord's resurrection. Graciously help us to show the power of the resurrection in all that we say and do; through your Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

A Simple Way to Pray (Martin Luther, 1535)

Martin Luther suggest that we start by using the Ten Commandments, the Creed and the Lord's Prayer as a "worthy structure for daily spirituality".

Read the plain meaning of the text as a starting point for prayer.

Reflect on God's hand in our life and seek God's good and gracious will for our future

Repent because we are "in bondage to sin" but the God we know in Jesus Christ promises to forgive our sins.

Renew ourselves through heartfelt prayer asking for a new life, new inspiration and a new future in God's amazing grace.

"Pray for the right, steadfast faith that endures and abides until you come to that place where everything will remain eternally,

that is, after the resurrection of the dead in everlasting life. Amen."
