Jots on meditation

Meditation is the self-investigation of how to manage one's thoughts. It is to gradually get rid of thoughts that don't help and nurture only those that help - not by brute interference, but by steadily observing and gently dealing with thoughts through patience and practice. Meditation is enlightened self-interest. It is to focus on oneself. Meditation is to chase thoughts to their source. Meditation is to be a witness to the thoughts that arise, without attachment, and from a distance, neither feeling elated nor guilty. It is just "to be", without participating. We are beyond our thoughts.

This is the essence of "Who am l?".

So, what would it lead to?

1) Domesticated thoughts

2) Restrained words

3) Responsible actions

Self-examination is the best way to spend time with oneself. Self-examination is meditation.

Therefore, meditation need not necessarily be for one long stretch. One could do micro-meditations several times a day, even if just for two- or three-minutes duration, amidst the flurry of activities, to constantly stabilize oneself. Meditation is like a gyroscope.

To meditate is to spend time with oneself. It is to look within and understand the illegal encroachers within the mind. These encroachers could be events, things, or people. The mere recognition of these encroachers would drive them away. Sit quietly, recognize and observe the thought snatchers and encroachers inside the mind. The problem is inside and so is the solution!
