Daiten are a closed species by KingSmiggles. Their official lore, masterlist, and more can be found here.
Some WoB lore may deviate somewhat from official Daiten lore for balance purposes.
Present on: Northern Continent, some can travel to Middle and Southern but they're rare there.
Magic use: Some have it inherently, some can learn it, others cannot use it at all.
Size range: Up to 400 feet, though most are between 7 and 20 feet.
Daitens are characterized by their wedge-shaped faces, hooflike toes, and imposing height, along with three gills and a hole in the middle of the chest that can release holy energy. As the Daiten of WoB are so far removed from Heaven, this energy no longer serves any real purpose, though Daiten may release it during moments of strong emotion.
They are extremely difficult to harm, and of the creatures of WoB, only other Daiten, Masked Beasts, demons, and occasionally Mythicals can truly hurt them. Daiten have a 'shield of invincibility' that they must focus to keep up, but training and practice will make it take less effort. After a severely traumatic injury, such as loss of a limb, they lose this ability and lose the near-immortality it brings. Demon-pacting does not affect the Daiten the way it does other species - rather than truly pacting, the Daiten is corrupted and the demon is removed from its physical form and sent back to the spirit realm.
Daiten tend to be noble creatures, brought into being for lives of influence or guardianship normally. Their personalities vary widely, though, and not all Daiten choose paths of good. Corrupted Daiten are more prone to picking lives of underhanded crime and hatred. Sometimes, uncorrupted Daiten may stray from the path of true good as well, misguidedly believing that what they are doing is right.
Daiten are not capable of reproducing like most other species. Instead, they must be brought to life by a Lifebringer with an idol. After the fall of the Heavens, only one Lifebringer and an escort of a few other Daiten (who now reside within the royal family) escaped to the planet of WoB. The escorts set up a small shelter village and called it Halios, after the halos some of them carried proudly, and that Daiten held so highly. That village grew into the megacity it is today, as the Lifebringer brought more and more Daiten to life to serve as guardians, hunters, and more, even upon request from the Deoges and others who populated the Northern Continent at the time. Now, Daiten are one of the most dominant species among civilization.
Nowadays, the process for an organization to request a new Daiten brought to life has been streamlined, and the Lifebringer, Zodiac, is busy creating Daiten who serve a variety of purposes. Such Daiten are not beholden to their purpose, however, and have the free will to leave and move around as they please.
Present on: Wherever Daiten are.
Magic use: None.
Size range: Highly variable.
The manifestation of corrupted souls, Gamites feed off the negative emotions of other beings, particularly Daiten. They are one of the few things able to truly harm a Daiten, and are able to corrupt them as well. They do not live in or take part in societies, and are not sentient on the level of other beings. Though often mistaken for some sort of demon, they are not demons and are incapable of pacting with other beings.
