Unit 6: Newton's Third Law & Normal Forces

For the mini-quiz tomorrow you should understand the following:

  • How it is possible for a solid table to push up on a book
  • Spring Model of Matter
  • Why contact forces are called normal forces
  • How a springs behave to be able to act as an automatic adjustable force equalizer
  • How it is possible for two solid objects can push against each other with equal and opposite forces
  • Newton's Third Law
  • What is an action-reaction pair and what is not an action-reaction pair
  • The Baby-Magnet Model and how it relates to N3L
  • How its possible for N3L to apply to a collision involving a large truck and a small car

Please Note: There WILL be pairs of forces given on tomorrow's quiz that are NOT action-reaction pairs. So please do not assume all forces are equal.

In Addition: Do not be surprised to see questions on the mini-quiz related to Newton's 1st and 2nd laws or questions that ask you to calculate weight (force of gravity) from mass. Feel free to refer back to your quiz on Newton's 1st and 2nd law.

Review Sheet Solutions

In addition to the review sheets please study the two normal forces worksheets that you had for homework.
