Unit 9: Coulomb's Law and the Electric Field
For the Quiz:
- Understand the basic laws of attraction and repulsion between positive, negative, and neutral charges
- Be able to relate the amount of charge in Coulombs to the amount of electrons
- Be able to understand and apply Coulomb's Law
- Understand what an electric field is and how it affects other charges
- Understand how the direction of an electric field is defined and how it is drawn
- Understand how to vectorally add both electric forces and electric fields
- Understand what Gauss's Law is and how to apply it for a point charge/sphere of charge, line of charge/cylinder of charge, and a sheet of charge
- Understand how charges are distributed on a conductor vs. non conductor
- Understand how to apply Gauss's Law on the inside of a conductor vs. nonconductor
- Understand the concepts of linear, surface, and volume charge densities
- Understand the relationship between electric field created by a charge and how that electric field exerts a force on a second charge
