Science Project Follow Through

The Follow Through

As you are already aware, you are required to complete a project during the third quarter.


The project is worth 150 points (1.5 quiz grades) and is due the day it is due! One day late will be 10% off (15 points) and after that it will NOT be accepted.


If you are not in school the day it is due, you are to either pass it in ahead of time, have a friend turn it in for you, or email it to me as a word document (.doc) or as a pdf file at mwadness@medford.k12.ma.us


All students are required to follow through on a proposed experiment!!!


Due Date: Wednesday March 18th


Complete your proposed science project.


Please be sure:

  • make the suggested improvements
  • write all data and observations into your log book
  • make sure each entry is dated
  • make sure you have repeated trials
  • take photographs and video of the investigation being conducted
  • Write up your report


For the final report you are to take your proposal and make the following changes:

  • Make improvements where directed to
  • Adjust abstract from future tense to past tense and include results
  • Make sure procedures reflect what you actually did vs. what you planned on doing
  • Fill in your data tables
  • Include relevant calculations, graphs, observations, etc.
  • Change your data analysis from a plan to an actual data analysis where you refer specifically to data
  • Change your conclusion to a real lab conclusion
  • Add an error analysis
  • Create a poster
  • Come to school and briefly present
  • Your log book MUST also include your original proposal and grading sheet!


Timeline

Week 1 - Using google docs edit your proposal to make necessary improvements

Gather materials

Due by Friday Feb 7th: Revisions and a photograph of gathered materials with you in the background.

Worth 1 HW


Week 2 - Collect First Run of data and record in your log book with date. Document yourself doing the experiment.

Due by Friday Feb 14th: Logbook with multiple trials of data. Picture of you doing your experiment AND video of you doing your experiment.

Worth 2 HW


February Vacation: Have a Vacation. Not counted as a "week."

Do NOT spend any significant amount of time working on the project over vacation. Vacation is for vacation!!!


Week 3.5 - Collect Second Run of data and record in your log book with date. Document yourself doing the experiment.

Due by Wednesday March 4th: Logbook with multiple trials of data. Picture of you doing your experiment AND video of you doing your experiment.

Worth 2 HW


Week 4.5 - Analyze the data and write the first draft of the report. Collect more data if necessary.

Due by Wed March 11th: First draft of your report. Registration for School Science Fair begins.

Worth 4 HW



Week 5.5-Make necessary revisions to your report and create poster/powerpoint

Due Wed March 18th: Final draft of your report and and poster/powerpoint

If participating in the science fair you visual is only allowed to be a poster

Worth 150 points


Thursday April 16th: Win the science fair!

Worth a lifetime of bragging rights.


For reference please reread my lab report format. Although you are turning in more than a simple lab report it does give an explanation for data analysis and conclusions.
