Unit 2: Velocity and Acceleration

Major Concepts of Unit

  • Understand how to create and interpret velocity vs. time graphs

  • Understand and apply the concept of acceleration

  • Be able to identify when there is and is not an acceleration in regards to velocity (not speed)

  • Understand how the relative directions of acceleration and velocity causes something to speed up or slow down

  • Understand how to calculate the acceleration from a velocity vs. time graph (take the slope)

  • Understand how to calculate displacement from a velocity vs. time graph (area)

  • Understand how to calculate acceleration from its definition

  • Understand the limitations of d = vt

  • Understand the derivation of the three kinematic equations for constant acceleration

  • Understand how to use the three kinematic equations for constant acceleration to solve for displacement, initial velocity, final velocity, time or acceleration.

Solutions to Problem Worksheets

Please note the proper problem solving proceedures of writing down -see last unit's video (knowns and unknowns, doing the algebra BEFORE substituting in numbers, ....)
