Tutoring volunteers assist children weekly with their academic needs. The program works with several local agencies to provide quality tutoring to children all over the Champaign-Urbana area. This project allows students to offer their time and services to make a difference in a young person’s life. This year, Michael hopes to get as many volunteers involved in classrooms as possible. Recurring volunteers in the classroom relieve stress for the teachers and help students get more out of their learning. VIP understands it can be daunting to commit to a recurring opportunity, so Michael strives to also have after-school opportunities for volunteers to assist with when they can.

Why VIP: "I love VIP for the effect on the community, but also because of the community that is created within the organization. Being student-run and staffed, the group of volunteers and the project directors mesh well, and it is a great community to be a part of."
Why Tutoring: "My project is awesome because if you volunteer with us in the classrooms, even just one day a week, you will see the impact you have on the youth in our community. As a bonus, in the classroom or not, it is fun working with everyone."
