The Kaņepji Oak

The Kaņepji Oak is located approximately 1,2 km from Manor house Jērcēni and is the second biggest oak in the Baltics and Latvia with circumference of 9,4 m. Many years ago stroke of lightening came over the oak and since then it is green only in the Southern part of the trunk. The same stroke of lightening resulted as a big hallow in the oak where even several people can enter. Dendrologists are dating the origin of the eminent tree with the time when bishop Albert came in Latvia - the beginning of 13th century.
