Permitting and Plan Approval
To ensure the health, safety and comfort of the general public, the Rutland Municipal Code establishes a permitting procedure for certain residential development projects occuring within the municipal corporation limits.
Municipal development permits are issued by the Office of the Mayor and administered by the Department of Code Enforcement. The Rutland Municipal Code requires the owner of record file an application for a development permit prior to the construction of a driveway approach; the construction or addition to a sidewalk within the public right-of-way; the construction or expansion of a residential dwelling; and the installation or relocation of a manufactured home.
The Department of Code Enforcement routinely examines properties for any development activity. If development activity is occuring without a proper permit, the Code Enforcement Officer may issue a stop work order until the proper permit is obtained.
