The Rutland Village Council serves as the legislative authority of the Village. Comprised of six members elected by the voters of the municipality, the Village Council is headed by the Mayor, who serves ex-officio as President of Council. Records of the Village Council are maintained by the Village Clerk-Fiscal Officer, who serves ex-officio as Clerk of Council.
The Village Council is responsible for approving the legislation and the annual fiscal budget; authorizing public contracts and all disposition of public property; confirming appointments and removals made by the Mayor; and conducting oversight of the spending of public funds.
Members of the Village Council regularly convene the second Monday monthly at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at Rutland Civic Center. Citizens, merchants, organizations and visitors alike are encouraged and welcomed to participate in all public sessions of the Village Council.
