Created by Municipal Ordinance of the Rutland Village Council, and governed under Chapter 150 of the Rutland Municipal Code, the Rutland Planning Commission is the foundation component to the development of the Village of Rutland.
As authorized and directed by law, the Planning Commission studies and receives, considers and makes recommendations to the Rutland Village Council in all matters of involving cultural and historical affairs, community development, economic development, tourism, platting and land usage.
The Planning Commission additionally interprets the Rutland Land Usage Code (Title 15 of the Rutland Municipal Code), and receives, hears and makes determinations on land usage appeals and variances.

The Rutland Mayor’s Office is accepting letters of interest from persons having an interest in serving as a member of the Rutland Planning Commission.
Interested persons are asked to submit a letter of interest no later than July 31, 2025 to:

Members must be a resident of the Village of Rutland, with the exception of any person applying for appointment as a public member, in which case, must be a resident of Meigs County.
Appointment of members is made by the Mayor with consultation with the Village Council in accordance with Chapter 150 of the Rutland Municipal Code, and Chapter 713 of the Ohio Revised Code. Members may serve unlimited number of terms, subject to appointment or removal by the Mayor, each six years in length.
