DIMENSIONS AND RULES

  • 75 feet between bases.

  • 50 feet from back of home plate to pitching rubber.

  • Official length of game: Five (5) innings (5th inning is open).

  • An inning consists of 3 outs or 7 runs scored.

  • No player may play the outfield twice unless all other players have played the outfield once, three times until all other players have played the outfield twice, etc.

  • No player may be on the bench twice unless all other players have been on the bench once, three times until all other players have been on the bench twice, etc.

  • Each player must play an infield position and an outfield position for at least one full inning.

  • A player may play the catcher position for a maximum of Three (3) innings.

  • A player may pitch a maximum of Two (2) innings (innings must be consecutive).

  • Two (2) other players may also play the same position twice.

  • All other players must be allowed to experience all remaining positions on the field. The only exception to this rule would be in a Four (4) inning "called game". Coaches should keep in mind the spirit of the fair play rule, along with the action interpretation of this rule. All players should be rotated in the batting order and field from game to game. Every player deserves fair playing time and opportunity. This holds true in tournament and playoff games as well.

  • Unless for reason of injury, no substitutions are allowed for any position, other than the pitcher, during the inning. When substituting for a pitcher (during an inning), it must be from an infield position other than the catcher.

  • A pitcher must be substituted if he or she hits batters Three (3) times in One (1) inning or any Four (4) batters during a game.

  • Dropped third strike is automatic out regardless of how many outs there are. Batter may not advance to first base.

  • Base runners cannot leave the base until the pitched ball leaves the pitcher's hand. One (1) warning per team will be given and any further infractions will result in an automatic out to the runner.

  • A runner may only steal second base when it is unoccupied prior to the pitch. No runner may steal third base at any time. No double steals permitted.

  • The defence will consist of: pitcher, catcher, first base, second base, third base, shortstop and up to Four (4) outfielders for a maximum of Ten (10) players.

  • *At Vaughan Grove* a runner or batter may advance at his or her own risk a maximum or One (1) base for any pitched ball to pass the catcher and reach the gravel. A runner or batter may advance at his or her own risk for any pitched ball the pass the catcher and remains on the grass. All pitched balls are considered live and time should not be called until play has stopped. When no runners are on base, the defensive coach should retrieve any pitched balls that pass the catcher except for the "third strike" ball.

  • House league extra innings in playoffs ONLY. The International Baseball Rule is used - the Away team will start the inning with One (1) out and the player that was the last out from the previous inning on second base. Same will apply for the Home team.
