Word Problems on Number Properties

In chapter 8.4 on relations between numbers, we had talked about number riddles. Such riddles can also be called word problems involving number properties and relations. Students would enjoy such activities. Here is a selection of problems created by some students.

1. I am a two-digit number. If you add both my digits, you will get 10. In one’s place I have an odd number, but if you take a letter from me, I become even. What number am I? (37)

2. In unit’s place I have the least prime number. In tens place I have the cube of the digit in unit’s place. What number am I? (28)

3. I am a two-digit number. The difference between the digits is two. The square of the digit in units place is equal to 1. Who am I?31

4. I am a two-digit even number. In the ten’s place I have the least odd number. In the unit’s place I have twice that of the tens place. What number am I?12

5. I am a 2-digit number I am between 6 X 8 and 11 X 5 The sum of my digits is 6 What number am I? 51.

6. I am a three-digit number. I have the largest one-digit number at unit’s place. In tens place I have 5 less than unit’s place. If you add me you will get eighteen. What number am I? 549
