History
The place to find the route (root) to your family tree.
Meets on the 2nd Tuesday each month, 10am - 12 noon in the Training Room at Quarry Bank Community Centre, Ormskirk Road, Skelmersdale. We work on a one to one basis to help your research, based on any old certificates, documents and other information on your family and using web sites can trace back through the years to find information on your forebears. You can bring along laptops, tablets etc (with chargers) on which to record your research. Beginners welcome, and we try to remove any brick walls you have reached with your families.
Contact: Alma Harrison 01695 623138
Meets: First Thursday of the month at 19:00.
Venue: Bispham Methodist Scout Hall, Crank Road, Billinge. WN5 7DT.
Established in November 2016, as the name suggests the group is made up of members interested in all aspects of history and doesn’t concentrate on specific periods, countries or personalities. The group currently has around 40 members and attendance at monthly meetings averages 20+. Typical meetings last between one and a half and two hours.
Recent presentations have included Women of the California Gold Rush, History of the BBC, Francisco Pizarro Conquistador, Frank Foley Spy and Righteous among the Nations and The Gunpowder Plot. Members suggest topics for future talks and are encouraged to prepare and present talks about subjects that interest them.
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PRESSURE TO DO SO.
We hope our members enjoy our meetings and leave knowing a little more about the subject of the evening’s talk than they did when they arrived!
To join our group all you need is an interest in History and to come to one of our meetings, you will be very welcome. (We don’t have a waiting list)
If group funds allow, we charge £1 per meeting including tea and biscuits, if we are “saving up” to pay a professional guest speaker it’s £2!
If you have any questions or would like further information, please email Kevin Griffin, Group Leader
We meet on the fourth Thursday at St Teresa’s at 10.00 with speakers on local history with occasional visits to places of interest.
