AP

- lumbar bodies, intervertebral disc spaces, lamina, pedicles, spinous and transverse processes

- Include lower thoracic to sacrum

- Beam collimated to lateral margin of psoas muscle

- Open intervertebral joints

- SI joints included

- No rotation (spinous processes in midline)

Lateral

- Lower thoracic to sacrum

- Open intervertebral disc spaces

- Superimposed posterior margins of each vertebral body

- Vertebrae aligned down the middle of radiograph

- Superimposed iliac crests

- Spinous processes

- Intervertebral foramina
