The purpose of this document is to define the external interfaces for the satellite communication subsystem. This includes mechanical, electrical, and data interfaces necessary for integration, operation, and testing.
Certain proprietary details governed under a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) between the University of Manitoba STARLab and relevant parties are not included in this document. Access to these details is restricted to authorized personnel as outlined by the NDA.
The communication subsystem comprises the following components:
Transceiver: S-band transceiver for telemetry and telecommand (TMTC).
Antenna Assembly: Two wideband S-band antennas for uplink (Rx) and downlink (Tx) communication.
Coupler : For combining Tx/Rx signals to be sent from transceiver to wideband antennas.
Input supply voltage: 8V to 18V DC (via H2 stack connector)
Typical power consumption: 1.66W (in receive mode)
Overvoltage, overcurrent, and brown-out protection on transceiver
Primary data bus: RS-485 via H2 stack connector
Configuration and testing interface: USB-C on the transceiver module
