Test Procedure: Detailed test procedure to be completed in Phase D.
Test EM reaction wheel with COTS driver (X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1) and controller boards (NUCLEO-G431RB).
Test EM reaction wheel with CCA designed using X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1 and NUCLEO-G431RB.
Test FM reaction wheel with FM CCA.
Pass Criteria:
Test Description: According to ADCS simulations, the ArcticSat reaction wheel must provide a certain amount of torque and momentum to satisfy slewing requirements. This test will take the EM and FM reaction wheel and use hardware-in-the-loop tests to verify that the reaction wheel is able to perform as intended.

Resources Required:
Tools:
EM reaction wheel, FM reaction wheel.
6180-056 ROS-W, Data Acquisition System
X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1, NUCLEO-G431RB, MCSDK, Computer
Verification Activity:
R_ARC-RW-0034 [Test Phase D]: The reaction wheel shall be able to functionally support ADCS slewing capabilities.
R_ARC-RW-0037 [Test Phase D]: The AS-RW torque shall be greater than or equal to 0.5 mNm within the allotted power budget.
R_ARC-RW-0038 [Test Phase D]: The AS-RW shall be capable of storing 0.004 Nms of momentum within the allotted power budget.
Test Procedure: Detailed test procedure to be completed in Phase D.
Test EM reaction wheel with COTS driver (X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1) and controller boards (NUCLEO-G431RB).
Test EM reaction wheel with CCA designed using X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1 and NUCLEO-G431RB.
Test FM reaction wheel with FM CCA.
Pass Criteria:
Measure torque ripple and verify that it is less than or equal to 5% of the average torque.
Test Description: An in-house reaction wheel is currently being developed for the ArcticSat CubeSat. Effective control of the reaction wheel’s motor requires specialized software and algorithms. Rather than building this software from the ground up, the STM32 Motor Control Software Development Kit (MCSDK) will be used. The MCSDK offers both 6-step commutation and field-oriented control (FOC) algorithms, which will be both tested in the engineering model version of the reaction wheel and validated on the flight model version.

X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1, NUCLEO-G431RB, MCSDK, Computer
Verification Activity:
R_ARC-RW-0041 [Test Phase D]: The AS-RW shall have a maximum torque ripple less than or equal to 5% of the average torque at nominal operating speeds.
Test Description: The reaction wheel will be subjected to a range of ambient temperatures during operation. To evaluate its performance under these conditions, testing will be conducted across a temperature range of -30°C to +30°C. During the test, the reaction wheel will operate using specific speed and torque profiles derived from ADCS simulations. Its performance at either end of the temperature range will be measured and compared to baseline results obtained at room temperature. The STSPIN830 driver (X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1) includes a thermal shutdown feature that activates if the reaction wheel encounters unsafe thermal conditions during operation.

Verification Activities:
R_ARC-RW-0040 [Test Phase D]: The AS-RW shall be functionally tested at predicted bus-level temperature extremums.
Test Procedure: Detailed test procedure to be completed in Phase D
Test EM reaction wheel with CCA designed using X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1 and NUCLEO-G431RB.
Pass Criteria:
While in operation, monitor the reaction wheel temperature using the STSPIN830 driver. The test is successful if the temperatures remain within acceptable limits.
