The TXHSWS wants everyone to stay safe and healthy as they grow in skills and knowledge. Our events have special protocols in place that meet/exceed the State and Local requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Day 1 State Build Off
Day 1 Build:
Will Be A Fabrication Table with Weld Positioner
This Will Be A Partial Blue Print and Partial Visual & Measurement Build
Each Team will be able to take the Fab Table Home After Event

A couple of items you will need in addition to your regular tools are as follow
(1) 3/4" Old/New Combination or Double Box End wrench to fit bolts, to be used as the handle on the weld positioner.
(2) 1/2" x 1" - 1 1/2" Hex Bolt and Nuts
Each team will need either a Oxy-Fuel torch or Grinder to saddle 1 piece of pipe
Final State Build Off
Day 2 Build:
Project will be built/assembled from Blueprint. Parts are pre-cut.
Complete projects will remain with the TXHSWS For Sponsors, Donations, and Scholarship Funding.

Rules for State Build Off
Teams should supply any equipment that would be needed to complete the metal project build. Including but not limited to engine driven welders, grinders, levels, clamps, worktables, sawhorses, oxy-fuel rig, metal cutting saw, and any other equipment you feel necessary. STUDENTS MAY NOT USE, MIG OR PLASMA CUTTING TOOLS.
******Grinders MUST have guards and handles******
Students must be in proper PPE for Build off.
This is a minimum required list
Denim / Wool pants
Long Sleeve Cotton Welding Shirt or an approved Welding Jacket
Closed Toe LEATHER Shoes (No running shoes or similar will be allowed.)
***** If a student does not have proper foot wear they will not be allowed to participate in the event****

Each school will provide a Fire Extinguisher that has an up to date card that shows last inspection and a spent rod receptacle for their build area: It must be placed in a reasonable distance from the work area.
Each team must have a broom, dust pan or magnet to clean up the area after completion of build. Magnets are required in non paved areas.
Each school should provide some type of banner, flag, or signage displaying their school or program name.
All participants must attend the Safety Meeting at 8:45 AM
Engines can power up at 9:00 to begin the build-off which will begin at 9:15AM and end at 4:00 PM with judging to follow. At the judge's discretion more time might be given to complete the build. There will be a 60-minute (mandatory non working) lunch break given.
Teachers will be allowed in the construction area from 9:00 AM - 9:15 AM and again for a 15-minute period immediately following the lunch break to offer advice in the planning process. At all other times teachers shall be clear of the construction area.
If teachers or visitors are within 20’ of the work area they must be in PROPER PPE (including school officials and administrators)
All welding will be performed using the SMAW process. The following electrodes will be supplied, if you would like to use a different electrode you will need to supply them.
