Dr. William R. "Billy" Harrell
Dr. William R. "Billy" Harrell was a pioneer in the establishment of agricultural mechanics project shows and the creation of the Tractor Technician Career Development Event. He is known by thousands of our students as the man on the oxyacetylene video and countless other ag mech instructional videos.
He was a true teacher with a heart for all students—at both the secondary and collegiate levels, and left a legacy for students and teachers that will stand the test of time. He was serving students and teachers to the very end of his life.

Students will follow an AWS D1.1 Welding Procedure Specification to complete the welding test. If the student passes the welding test, a Welder Performance Qualification Record (Certification) will be written and stamped by a Certified Welding Inspector.

Students will need to bring their welding safety equipment in order to participate.
Schedule:
The testing will start at 8:00 am and end at 2:00 PM.
Schools will be scheduled a time slot for Safety Meeting and Welding Test.

Certification Welding, & Safety Rules:
There is no fee for this event.
All safety rules will be observed.
Contestants will provide all proper PPE
Each contestant will be assigned a TWS number that will be written on their coupons.
All contestants must clean welding stations after use.
Observers will not be allowed in the competition area.
Students need to bring tools. (chipping hammer, wire brush, hood and pliers)
Students will need to select their position and process prior to the Registration Deadline Friday, April 30th for the Certification Date.
Students will go through brief safety inspection and training before each group enters the weld testing area.
Announcements:
All Students who pass visual inspection on their Weldment, will move on to be tested for a 1G or 3G Certification in accordance with AWS D1.1.
All plates that pass visual inspection will be send to X-Ray, by Acuren. Schools will be able to down load their X-Rays from the website after the event!

Liability Waiver and Release Form

* All students testing must bring all the appropriate personal protective equipment: Safety glasses, long sleeve welding shirt, long pants with no cuffs, leather boots, welding hood, gloves, chipping hammer, wire brush, and pliers. Grinders with wire wheels are allowed & light grinding is allowed.
ONLY TEST COUPON AND ELECTRODES ARE PROVIDED- MUST BRING OWN PPE/TOOLS!
* All students MUST bring the completed "Weld Testing Form" and the "Liability Waiver and Release Form"
-- Liability waiver requires parent or guardian signature.
TESTING PROCEDURES:
1. Arrive at the testing location 15 minutes before your schedule weld time. Safety Meetings will begin at or before the scheduled time for each school.(15-20min) Liability Waiver and Release Form will be turned in at Safety Meeting.
2. Weld Testing Form will be checked by one of the facilitators at each location to confirm your welding position and process. The facilitators will give you your test plate already tacked together and show you what welding booth to use. Make sure your test plate is marked with TWS# before you take it to the visual inspection table.
3. TIME LIMIT: 30 Minutes in the Booth. Time will be marked by facilitator on you Welder Testing Form when you enter the booth and time will be marked when you complete your weld by the facilitator MAX Test Time is 30mins!
4. Take your marked test plate and this Welder Testing Form to the visual inspection table.
5. Follow all safety rules. For example: safety glasses must be worn at all times and safety glasses with a face shield must be worn when grinding.
