The TXHSWS wants everyone to stay safe and healthy as they grow in skills and knowledge. Our events have special protocols in place that meet/exceed the State and Local requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

IMPORTANT INFO:
All Welding Levels will allow chipping hammers and wire brushes. In addition to that Levels 1 will allow battery powered grinders with wire wheels, and Levels 2,3&4 will allow grinders with wire wheels and grinding disks for light grinding needs.

Cutting Contest
Registered Students will compete in the LIT & All-Tex cutting challenge. Challenge will be timed and evaluated for accuracy.
IMPORTANT: Each individual needs bring their own their own PPE this includes, clear/dark face shield, safety glasses and gloves that are to be worn at all times while in the cutting area.
Measurement, marking and other tools will be provided at each station.
Sample/Practice Plan Provided - Actual Contest Plan will be dinfferent!
*All Students that register for a welding certification level are automatically entered for compete in the Cutting Contest Challenge.
Quiz and Tool ID Event
Registered Students are eligible to take the Tool ID and Safety Knowledge Test. This event consists of Identifying 25 tools form the Tool List below and answering 50 question (T/F & Multiple Choice) from the Safety Study Guide Below.
Top 10 winners will be recognized.

Miller OpenBook Challenge
STARTS: 1/11/21

Print your "Certificate of Completion" and bring it to the LIT Event 1/15/21 .
*We will be drawing for prizes!Miller OpenBook Online Challenge is a NEW Virtual Challenge with the TXHSWS!
The Texas High School Welding Series is utilizing Miller's educational free online platform OpenBook in order to help students prepare for their career in the welding industry.
Learn about Weld Types, Postions, and Symbols, as well as Filler Metal selection. Each educational module is accompanied by a knowledge check. Students have two attempst to pass each module and knowledge check with a 70% or higher score.
High Scores and winners will be ranked and published on the website following the live announcement at LIT Welding Contest and Certification Event Friday, January, 15th.
MUST Bring Printed Certificate to be eligible to win prizes!
High School Welders who are attending the LIT Event in person should print their “Completion Certificates” from their Miller OpenBook Challenge and bring them to the Event Friday. Certificates will be put into a LIVE drawing for welding prizes.
*NOTE: Students MUST make a 70% or higher on all modules for a certificate print option to show up.Underwater Welding
The Ocean Corp
Students with the best under water weld passes will have the opportunity to earn a Dive Coin that will qualify them for the Underwater Welding and Diving State Event this summer at The Ocean Corp in Houston.
At the State event students will compete for TOC Scholarships and prizes as well as the opportunity to earn an AWS D3.6 Welding Certification.
