While traveling through Taiwan, there were several iterations of a nation portrayed through flags-- flags of peace, flags of rebellion, and ultimately, flags of identity.
The flag depicting the tiger, for example, is the flag of the Republic of Formosa, a former national flag which is a symbol of independence.
This prompted my thinking to how flags can be used in the classroom to not only understand nations, but also ourselves.
How would students create a flag that defines their identity?
