About Ms. Riley
About Ms. Riley
Ms. Riley is an educator at Franklin Middle School. She teaches Yearbook and 8th Grade English. This year, she will begin teaching English 9 at Skyview High School.
Ms. Riley has been lucky to travel to many different places, including Germany, England, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Eastern Europe, and Turkey.
In April 2026, she traveled to Taiwan for two weeks to connect with educators there and learn about the Taiwanese education system. Ms. Riley traveled through the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms program.
Her goal is to see as much of the world as she can to build global connections, understand new perspectives, and share her experiences with her students and fellow teachers.

Global Education promotes the idea that we have a lot to learn about other countries and places, and we can share our own thinking and ideas with others.
The purpose of this site is to demonstrate examples of global education in action. Ms. Riley traveled to Taiwan in April of 2026 to learn more about the use of technology and AI in the Taiwanese classroom, and to share the perspectives of her students with students abroad.
Fairfax County Public Schools and many other districts around the nation employ standards of global competency for students and staff. In FCPS, our Portrait of a Graduate Skills contain the standard for being a "Global and Ethical Citizen." Employing global education practices in the classroom ensure that our students are building communication, collaboration, and connection skills that will last a lifetime and prepare them for employment, deeper connections, and responsive citizenship.

Ms. Riley wants to bring back a new appreciation for education in other countries, and to share the perspectives of Franklin students with those she meets!
