On April 4th, 1906 Mount Vesuvius erupted ruining hundreds of homes, killing thousands, and leaving several others wounded. The ash from this eruption is said to have spread to the Isle of Capri, just off the coast of southern Italy.
On April 17th in 1923, the lights first rose over Yankee Stadium for a game against the Boston RedSox. At the end of the ninth, the Yankees came out on top with a 4-1 lead.
The first American publication of Anne Frank’s Diary was released in April of 1952. This book was written by a young teenage girl named Anne Frank who lived, day to day through the Holocaust. Unfortunately, the author of this inspiring journal died in a Nazi camp in 1945. Since this date, the book has been translated into 70 different languages and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
Following the thirteenth blaze of the Cuyahoga River, an uprising in environmental awareness sparked the idea of a holiday now called Earth Day. This holiday was designed to celebrate life on Earth and promote green living through the planting of trees and gardens as well as organizing trash clean-ups.
