Hello Thursday STEM Families!
We had a fun class learning about snowflakes! If you've ever heard that no two snowflakes are identical; it's true! And today we learned why! Snow crystals are sensitive to temperature and will change in shape and design as they fall from the cloud and are exposed to fluctuating temperatures. So, in order to have two snow flakes with the same history of development is impossible! What a beautiful reminder of how God has created each one of us uniquely too, kind of like snowflakes! Also, a fun fact: the biggest snowflake was 15" in diameter and 8" thick and was recorded in 1887 by a rancher in Montana!
Once we learned some of the basic facts about snowflakes, like how they always have 6 sides and are symmetrical, each student was given a heaping pile of marshmallows and unlimited toothpicks to create and build their own snowflakes! We also enjoyed some hot cocoa and watched Frosty the Snowman after several failed attempts to play The Star due to technical difficulties, but had fun nonetheless!
Also, I'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I pray that all of you and your families have a wonderful, healthy, and joyous break!
Many blessings,
Mrs. K
