Hello Thursday STEM Families!
Today was EXTRA busy in class! We began prepping for our Caterpillar Automata projects and there's quite a bit to be done before we get those caterpillar bodies in motion! It was so busy in fact, that I unfortunately forgot to take photos (I'm sorry!)! Students were to bring their shoeboxes that fit within the measurement guidelines (see below) and began decorating them with the stickers, washi tape, construction paper, pom poms, googly eyes, etc that were provided in class. I did have a few extra boxes for some of the students that did not have a box (thank you, Mrs. Guerra for bringing an extra!), however I did not have enough, so a couple of students that did not have their box were able to begin the cylinder decorating part. These cylinders will act as the caterpillar bodies! We will continue to work on our caterpillars next week as well!
**Students should cover the outside of the shoe box with paper. This could be wrapping paper, construction paper, or however they would like to decorate it! They may want to add stickers, drawings, or any other creative decorations as well. Just leave the center strip at top free for the caterpillar.
FOR NEXT WEEK: PLEASE BRING YOUR DECORATED SHOE BOXES AND ANY ADDITIONAL PIECES THAT YOU BROUGHT HOME (i.e. cylinders, caterpillar faces). IF you brought cylinder pieces, please decorate the sides of them before you bring them back to class!
Shoebox (no more than 12", should be at least 4" in height)
2 Toilet Paper Rolls
glue
scissors
Engineering Notebook
Pens/Pencils
Shoe boxes will need to have the lid removed. If this has not been done yet, please have this prepared before our next class. Also, one of the long sides will need to be cut off as well, just like this one to the left.
BEFORE you cut off the long side piece, please make sure that your shoe box is at least 4" in height. IF it is not, you will need to rotate your box to the side and in order to use it that way, so that it is taller.
