The 997 has a slightly narrow toe box.
If you have normal or narrow width feet, Go true to size. (ie: I am a true size 9.5 with normal width, so I buy my 997s in a size 9.5).
For wider feet, I suggest going up half a size (ie: I am a true size 9.5 with wide feet, so I buy my 997s in a size 10).
As of right now (Q1 2022), 997 Retroes do NOT come in wider or narrower widths.
Comfort Factor Ratings:
Cushioning (Softness): 3/10
Stability (Firmness): 8/10
Cushioning to Stability Ratio: 3:8
Midsole Shape (Foot support): 4/10
The 997, unfortunately, is not that comfortable of a shoe. It feels stiff on your feet and it feels like you are walking on top of a stiff platform.
The 997 DOES utilize ENCAP, but because of the stiff construction of the midsole as a whole, there is little cushioning. The 997 is very stable and supportive, but is very lacking when it comes to the comfort and cushioning.
