The upper of the 57/40 (as well as the name) is heavily inspired by the classic 574. Unfortunately, it does not bring over any of the comfort technology from the 574 into its midsole. The 57/40 is a very average feeling shoe on feet, in terms of comfort. It's better than any hard rubber outsole shoe, but that's not the highest bar to pass. It's ok for regular lifestyle wear, but if you are on your feet a lot, the 57/40 is not for you. The 57/40 was made to be a lifestyle shoe, inspired by a classic model.
The 57/40's midsole is made out of a kind of stiff foam with a flat rubber outsole. The foam utilized is just a standard foam with no proprietary technology.
