The Tortoise and the Hare
Newcomers Tortoise and Hare need a safe place to stay, with access to food and water. Who will find a good spot first?
The Tortoise and the Hare was produced by Squideo from an idea and a script by Merten Reglitz who is a moral and political philosopher at the University of Birmingham. Merten's project is on free internet access as a human right, and is supported by the British Academy.

Nature facts
Ants are considered social animals because they live in colonies where they have an effective division of labour. As in the video, ants search for food and gather what they need to construct nests. They have a well-developed communication system among themselves.
Tortoises can live in different habitats, from deserts to wetlands, and eat foliage, flowers, and fruit. Hares live in open fields and have nests above ground. Neither tortoise nor hare live in groups and they are solitary species.
You can find a hare in our video, The Pheasant and the Hare.
Inspiration
The inspiration for our video is a famous Aesop's fable. Unexpectedly, a tortoise wins a race against the hare because the hare is so sure that he is the fastest that he takes a nap in the middle of the race, and wakes up when the tortoise is already close to the finish line. In our video Tortoise also achieves her goal before Hare, using the power of social connections.
