Nature facts
Ants, beetles, and grasshoppers eat seeds! Ants are not picky and may eat also grains and corn. Grasshoppers may also eat leaves, grass, and flowers. Beetles eat stems, roots, leaves, and flowers.
Hunting spiders trap grasshoppers, crickets, and beetles in their web and eat them. As in our story, a grasshopper may get stuck. When that happens, the spider uses venom to immobilize its prey. Then it starts its meal!
Inspiration
The Ant and the Grasshopper is inspired by the famous Aesop's fable with the same title.
In Aesop's original version, the ant works all summer long to gather supplies for the winter whereas the grasshopper enjoys life and then is unprepared for the cold season.
