How do we interpret an artwork? Is there a correct interpretation?
The Peacock's Art Exhibition has been produced by Squideo from an idea and a script by Laura D'Olimpio, a philosopher of education at the University of Birmingham interested in the merits of teaching and learning about art.
Our video is set in the outback and we find animals native of Australia such as sleepy Koala and bouncy Kangaroo. Koalas get little energy from their leaf-based diet and take time to digest eucalyptus so they sleep between 18 and 22 hours a day! Kangaroos are a lot more energetic, and can hop long distances for hours without getting tired.
Peacocks are native of India but can be found in Australia as well. As peacocks are symbols of beauty, it is apt that our Peacock is an artist! Peacocks also used to represent wealth, royalty, divinity, and immortality.

This video on the philosophy of art encourages us to think about why art is valuable. When we engage in a fun and playful way with artworks, we recognise that creating and enjoying art can be beneficial and personally meaningful.
The use of the animal characters and the outdoor art exhibition space (a tree is the gallery for Peacock’s artworks) is appropriate given that aesthetic experiences are found in relation to artworks but also beautiful natural scenery.
