The following guidelines on e-learning technical architecture are to be followed during the Analysis phase:
CBT/ WBT courses shall conform to the applicable SCORM Standards.
CBT/ WBT courses shall comply with the applicable AICC Guidelines and Recommendations (AGRs).
CBT/ WBT courses shall adhere to the applicable Accessibility Guidelines.
Both CBT and WBT courses shall play in a Web browser, without hiding the Windows Taskbar.
The primary launcher shall have the browser title, “Launch > Curriculum Title” or “Launch > Course Title”, and the actual course browser shall have the course title as the browser title. For example, “Launch > Skill Development Program” for the launch browser and “Introduction to Learning Services” for the course browser.
The launch browser shall open in a resizable normal window and the course browser shall open in a maximized window. The “Restore Down” functionality of the browser shall not be disabled.
The launch browser shall have a background color of white and the course browser shall have a background color of black.
Vertical and horizontal scroll bars shall be disabled from all browsers.
The GUI shall be located at the middle-center (center-aligned vertically and horizontally) of the course browser.
All other GUI buttons shall be deactivated when a GUI pop-up is displayed; they shall be enabled only when the displayed pop-up is closed.
Alternate interaction using the keyboard (TAB, SHIFT+TAB, ESC, ENTER keys) shall be enabled for interface-level functionalities and page-level interactivities.
The course shall enable access from any part of the course to any other part in not more than three clicks.
Buttons shall always have their names as ToolTips, which shall appear two seconds on rollover.
The following OST font types shall be preferred on Web pages:
For pop-up titles and key words, Verdana bold (≤12 px, ≠13+ px)
For body text, Verdana normal (≤12 px, ≠13+ px)
The following OST font colors shall be preferred on Web pages:
Black, for titles and body text (#000000)
Blue, for hyperlinked text (#3333ff)
Green, for instruction text (#008000)
Orange, for glossarized OST key words (#fd9933)
Italicized, underlined, or blinking text shall never be used in online reading materials.
Click pop-ups shall have a Close button, rollover pop-ups shall not.
When a content pop-up is displayed, all other content buttons/ links shall remain active. The user shall be allowed to jump from one pop-up to the other by clicking on the content buttons, and not have to close the open pop-up to click another button.
On question screens, the validation button shall not be enabled until the question is fully attempted.
The correct answers to a question shall always be displayed along with the user’s responses with a view to enable textual and/or visual comparison.
The course shall be packaged such that all the files are placed in a single folder, except the “index.htm” (course launcher) file.
