The following guidelines are for multimedia production in e-learning programs:
Graphic work-products shall not violate the principles of art.
Visual content shall be presented as illustrations, screenshots, photographs, animations, and simulations.
Graphics for all content pages shall always be jointly visualized with the writer. If not possible, the artist shall validate the relevance and feasibility of the graphics descriptions in the storyboard before commencing production.
Page visual content shall always represent the textual content visually. Generic graphics and ornamental animations shall be avoided.
Image “titles” shall be provided on top of the visual, “labels” besides the visual, and “captions” at the bottom of the visual.
Content buttons on a screen shall all be of the same width. This means the width of all buttons on a screen is equal to the width of the largest button.
For formulas, currencies, and foreign alphabet, special characters may be availed from the Character Map facility of MS Office suite.
Copyrighted credits shall have a “©” prefix, registered trademarks shall have a “®” suffix, trademarks shall have a superscripted “TM” suffix, and products containing audio have a “è” suffix.
OST shall not be animated, but only graphics. Animations shall be created only when a process or a sequence of events is to be visually presented, with the following considerations:
Faded image of the last step upfront
No auto-run animations. A typical animation starts on clicking a single “Play” button. Once animation starts, the button turns to “Pause”; on clicking “Pause”, the button turns to “Resume”, until the end of the animation when the button returns to “Play” (not “Replay”). Sliders and (step-wise) advance organizers may also be used instead of this typical strategy.
Object movements for similar steps; fade-in-fade-out effect for dissimilar steps
Pre-loader if file size exceeds 70 KB
Audio content shall be presented as music and voice-overs.
If music is used, the clips shall be looped for length.
If voice-overs are used, the clips shall be edited for background noise, hissing, and static.
