This page summarizes the basics of estimating the development effort hours for WBT programs.
Estimators shall not insert any buffer efforts while estimating for their department/ skill-specific segments of the project.
The total “development” effort of a project shall include the project planning, requirements analysis, product design, deliverables production, peer reviews, testings, corrections, project management, quality assurance, and contingency efforts.
The total “production” effort of a project shall include the effort for creating the writing-, graphics-, and integration-specific deliverables.
Project management efforts shall range between 10% – 15% of development effort.
Review and testing efforts shall range between 20% – 33% of production effort.
Quality assurance efforts shall range between 10% – 15% of development effort.
Contingency efforts shall range between 5 – 33% of development effort.
