Clay crabs are plentiful, curious, and extremely friendly creatures first discovered in the Abyss! Found by a nerokata named Thee Dee, these small crabs became extremly popular with residents of Thalassia's Edge almost overnight!
Clay crabs sport a wide range of colors, and have been found in just about every color under the rainbow and then some. These creatures are usually pretty simple, having markings made of keratin, hence why their markings are always seen lined off. Monochromatic crabs seem to be the most common, but those with multiple different colors have been found as well.
These crabs are also full of personality! For such simple creatures, clay crabs are surprisingly diverse in their personalities. Some are energentic, others are lazy, grumpy, etc. Friendly personalities, however, seem to be the most common, and are the most common ones to be found in homes around Thalassia's Edge.

Clay crabs, additionally, have been discovered to be excellent therapy and emotional support animals! Often empathetic, many owners of clay crabs have reported their companions sticking to them whenever something has them down, making concerned cooing noises and headbutting against them worriedly.
When paired with those with disabilities such as blindness and deafness, or even just nerokata with illnesses, clay crabs have also been shown to have a curious habit of getting protective of their owner. They've been seen helping to lead them around, snapping their claws and squeaking at potential threats. They also display genuine loyalty to their owners, getting upset when separated from them and snapping their claws in protest until they're let go to hurry back to their owner.
A clay crab's diet varies widely, as well, and they're known to consume a combination of clay, minerals, fish, and some foods found in the Abyss. Eating clay crab meat is generally frowned upon.
