The berth surrounding my body, crushing every bit of bone. The salt, it seeps in through the pores of my open skin
I wait on you inside the bottom of the deep blue sea. I wait on you inside the bottom of the deep blue...
The Edge is the term given to the cliffside that dips into The Abyss itself. It hosts Thalassia's Edge itself, AKA the name of the nerokata colony where this ARPG takes place in.
The Edge is largely boring and uneventful. It's a massive expanse of rock, with the rocks becoming sharper the closer you get to the drop-off point. Staring into The Abyss can give a feeling of dread or curiosity- while the drop is daunting, it's a little comforting to keep so close to where you came from. The Edge is a familiar sight for every nerokata, and there are countless festivities and games held on its rocky expanse.
The Abyss is a vastly mysterious thing.
Just looking into it, nerokata can feel a strong tug of the magic within- The Abyss is a massive basin of raw magic. Magic surrounds the bodies of all nerokata who enter, almost feeling like a warm, familiar blanket as they dive. The magic prevents them from being hurt by the mounting pressure as they dive deeper and deeper into the inky depths, until they can't see or make out anything but the glow under their eyes from their markings. Still, they go deeper, and deeper, and deeper...
... Until something changes.
The area lightens, the temperature shifts, and the nerokata find themselves floating somewhere new and unfamiliar. The weightlessness tells them they're still underwater, even if the area they find themselves in doesn't seem to be submerged at all. Which can only mean it's time to explore!
Every time a nerokata dives, they usually find themselves somewhere different- driving those who try to map it absolutely mad. The "worlds" that nerokata are spit out into can vary greatly, and some nerokata never live to see the same thing twice, no matter how many times they dive. Others keep coming back to the same place time and time again, to the point where they can will themselves and others with them into the area to create a sort of home away from home. It's unknown how this occurs- some theorize that it's a reflection of a nerokata's subconscious, while others think that a nerokata's soul forms the areas they find in real-time. Some think that it's simply all completely random. The one thing everyone agrees on is that nobody knows.
The environments have unlimited potential as well, and nerokata find themselves just about everywhere and anywhere. How players want to depict it is entirely up to them, but here are some examples to get the concept:
Other arpg worlds
Various fantasy worlds irl* (Pokemon, HTTYD, Splatoon, Star Wars, Avatar, DND, Minecraft, Subnautica, Skylanders etc etc etc)

While these unreal landscapes can be beautiful, they can be equally dangerous. Magic-feeding creatures call The Abyss home, lurking in its depths and waiting for unsuspecting prey. The Abyss itself is complex, and nerokata can get turned around if they're not careful as they confuse up from down. Worse yet, fry that sneak their way into The Abyss even find themselves unable to grow up at all, no matter how much time goes by- a condition known as Pan's Curse.
Even still, diving into The Abyss is a common activity for nerokata. Fry are discouraged by it, sure, but all nerokata understand and eventually attempt to answer its call. For this reason, scolding for fry that are too curious for their own good is usually light, and adults rather insist for them to ask an adult to come with them instead. Abyss Diving is often even thought of a rite of passage for nerokata, despite or even because of the risk associated with it. Many nerokata even haven't returned entirely from The Abyss, and memorials can be found etched into the cliffs bordering it.
So... Will you take the plunge?
