Thalassia's Edge is a semi-open E-ARPG- so, anyone can make a nerokata! Everyone has four (4) MYO slots when they start out in this group, as well as one (1) free Breeding Slot that resets on our Anniversary. We also offer transfers, though these are not freely available from the get-go. You can find more information on that in the Transfer Guide.
But, if you're here with an open MYO slot, then let's continue!
Baby nerokata are referred to as fry! Fry are a good bit smaller than their adult counterparts, and start out pretty basic. They tend to stick close to each other, and naturally school together when spooked!
You may notice slight anatomy and style shifts from image to image- this is intentional! This is to showcase how anatomy can have wiggle room to adapt to your specific art style!
Please keep in mind, as well, that one user cannot have more than one nerokata with the exact same name.
Round muzzle.
"Blank" eyes with no pupil or sclera.
Medium-long, fin-like ears.
Closed gills on both the neck and sides.
Accent colored glowing markings that line either side of the spine behind the gills, and under the eyes.
Optional accent/glowing areas; eyebrows, ears, inner nose, palms, underarms/legs, dorsal fin, and tips of the flukes. Accent placements can be smaller than what's shown/stop sooner!
Accents CANNOT be placed on the nerokata's inner ears or paw webbing.
Short fur, both on the head and on at least one other part of the body.
Round, circular eyebrows.
Dorsal fin, webbed paws, and a fluked tail that can be styled after sharks or dolphins.
To add onto that, ALL nerokata can switch freely between standing on all fours, or their hind legs!
Upgrade items CANNOT be used on standard nerokata fry MYOs. They should have no more traits than what is displayed.
The muzzle can be stylized into a bump!
The ONLY required accent areas are the "spots" lining the spine/eyes, commonly referred to as "glowspots". As shown, they can be any simple, singular, closed shape (as long as they can't be mistaken for colored eyelashes), and can start/stop a little early. Glowspots can be spaced however you want, otherwise.
The MINIMUM count for these spots are as follows: 2 ALWAYS for the face, 1 on the neck, 3 for the body, 3 for the tail.
As also shown, dorsal fin shape can vary.
The gill amount can vary, as long as they're present.
The body can be elongated within reason.
The legs, as well, can be lengthened within reason. Just be careful not to give them adult proportions!
The flukes, if desired, may be completely lined off!
There is a minimum size that glowspots can be! The minimum size for glowspots is shown here by Shu's nerokata, Luciano! Additionally, glowspots are allowed to be bunched/bubbled up in a more stylized fashion, as shown in Luciano. Glowspots should never be smaller than this size shown.
Additionally, as shown in the second/lower image, glowspots have a general "range" they should show up in! This is a guide to showcase where glowspots start to get too low- spots should not be in the dark blue line, highlighted as "Row 2". This line/these areas of the body are reserved for a mutation that allows for extra spots!
Nerokata, when born, have a fairly specific muzzle shape. Their muzzles are rounded, and on applications should not be drawn as a typical cat or dog muzzle. After all, they don't have very defined jawlines!
It's okay if you're not a fan of the muzzle style- muzzle shifter is available to all fry pretty early as a baby upgrade. If you need help drawing the muzzle for your MYOs though, don't hesitate to ask for redlines! A moderator will be happy to help you!
The inside of your nerokata's mouth and blood can be red/pink OR accent colored! (If they're accent colored, a nerokata's blood/mouth can glow!)
A nerokata's blood will ALWAYS match their mouth color, even if Colored Mouth is applied.
Additionally, your nerokata's mouth itself can be any shape you want. These are showcased below; it can be smoothed, notched, a kitty mouth- whatever you can think of!
Unlike most E-ARPGs, Thalassia's Edge does not have predetermined palettes OR placements! Meaning that things are all fair game! ... Somewhat, anyways.
Nerokata don't have palettes- but they do have color rules. Your fry's base color can be any color you want, as long as it's discernable from pure black, #000000. Along with this, their secondary colors must be of the same general hue! Your blue nerokata can have blue secondaries, but not purple or green, and so forth. The exact hue doesn't need to be the same on an RGB scale or anything, just that same general color. If you're unsure about palette legality, feel free to have a mod double-check it! We'll be checking for hues during the approval process anyways. Here's a rough quick guide to hue allowance!
The exception to this, are colors with 0 saturation. These bases have a loophole with them- they can have whatever color they want for their secondaries! The secondary hues should still be of the same color family, however. Additionally, pure white, #FFFFFF, can be freely used for ANYTHING- base color, secondaries, eyes and accent! Accent and eye colors can be ANY color, as long as they can be told apart from pure black! You cannot, however, have ALL colors on a nerokata be the same. So if you have no secondaries, your accent cannot be base colored, and so on.
Placements in this group are rather freeform, but still shouldn't be too sharp, expansive, etc, though it's important to keep in mind that the inner ear should be only all one color. As a rule of thumb, about 50% of a nerokata's base should be showing for fry approvals. Please keep in mind how much each body part takes up when accounting for placements, as even just making the tail completely secondary colored covers nearly 30-40% of the body in seconaries. Full tail placements combined with socks, underbelly, and large body placements can quickly cover up too much of a nerokata's body. For further examples, please consider the following:
- The tail can make up ~30-40% of allowed placements.
- The legs can make up ~50-60% of allowed placements.
- The whole head could make up ~25% of allowed placements.
- The whole main body can make up ~50% of allowed placements.
While these are rough estimates (I am NOT a math guy), it's very important to keep in mind just how much of the base you're covering with secondaries when that space can be taken up a lot quicker than expected! If you're ever unsure, don't be afraid to reach out for help from a mod. You can also use this website to see how your placements are looking!
For examples of legal and illegal fry, please take a look below!
Yes! Pure white accents are A-OK, the base is clearly discernible, and the secondaries are related to each other on the color wheel!
Yes! This nerokata's secondaries are all related to its base, and follow all other color rules!
Yes! Fins and ears, when NOT accent colored, can have multiple colors in them! Additionally, the markings on their back are big and blobby!
No! The base color is too dark, and the secondaries are not related! They also have too many accent colors, and have multiple Marking upgrades!
No! We can't tell what this nerokata's base color is, they have markings in their accent-colored areas, a gradient, and Spot Markings!
No! While not super obvious at first glance, this nerokata has a green base, but teal and yellow-ish secondaries according to the color wheel!
There's a few rules for application art! You can find the MYO template HERE!
For ease of moderation, all apps should be at a straight side view.
Make sure we can see at least 3 paws! It's okay if one is hidden.
You can have a limb or two lifted if you want, as long as we can see the placements clearly!
Filling out the egg is optional, but there are no rules for how to color eggs! It's just there for fun!
The ONLY shading allowed on apps is on the eyes, as shown.
The accent color is restricted to the placements outlined above until Color Mixer is applied.
Apps can be drawn on all fours OR on their hind legs.
Make sure your nerokata has the following for their application...
All four limbs showing
Both ears showing
Paw webbing
Eyebrows
Glowspots, and all other accent placements lined off
Fur in at least 2 places
Nostrils
Gills
A dorsal fin
3 toes showing on the close/viewer facing limbs
Drawn in side profile view
A rounded snout
When uploading your MYO to your platform of choice, please add this form in the description!

At the moment, Thalassia's Edge supports two sites to host your account: DeviantART or Toyhou.se. There is not a benefit or advantage of what you choose- it's simply whichever you personally are more comfortable with. You can choose to do both, if you wish, but your account on our Inventory will link back to the site you linked you first MYO for.
Here is an example of a correctly filled TOYHOUSE application! Here is one for DEVIANTART!
If doing both, PLEASE let us know on your application(s) so we know what characters and images to add to the respective world/group.
Regardless, the above form and your Glowstone count should be present in the image's description. Once the image is uploaded, you'll just need to pop your new baby into our MYO approval channel in our Discord!
Glowstones are this group's upgrade currency! You earn Glowstones with each and every new drawing you make of ANY character within Thalassia's Edge- Whether it be a pet, approved nerotaka, or even personal NPCs! The more Glowstones you accumulate, the cooler and more decked out you'll get to make your new nerokata! For more information, head to our Glowstone Guide!
Additionally, upgrades! Nerokata can accumulate upgrades as soon as they're approved, and are earned with Glowstone. To learn more about upgrades and how to apply them, go to our Upgrade Application Guide! Even if your familiar with E-ARPGs, PLEASE LOOK AT THE UPGRADE GUIDE. Applying upgrades works just a tad differently here!
That's all for this guide! If you have further questions, don't be afraid to pop into the Questions channel in our discord! And welcome to Thalassia's Edge!
