Experiences can range from extremely simple to extremely complex
Zappar was launched in 2011. Their website describes them as the world's leading augmented and reality platform and creative studio. They have partnered with many well known brands for advertising projects including Nestle, 7-Eleven, and Coco-Cola. Often used for marketing, but can easily be put to use for training and learning.
Embed extra material and web links onto a simple graphic , giving the ability to put a lot of information in one place without crowding
Virtual scavenger hunts
A little splash of fun - your company's mascot dancing on the desk or a celebration balloons that float up when pointing at a happy birthday message
Onboarding and virtual tours
Embed directions for a piece of equipment or software program that can be called up by scanning a code
Special selfie opportunities after completing an activity (learner with a AR chef's hat on after completing a cooking lesson, an AR gold medal after a quiz competition, or selfie with the author of a book completed in the book club)
When running a large group activity - such as an AR scavenger hunt at a meeting or conference, performance can slow down due to bandwidth draw. Experience for users on a mobile device can also depend on their phone's capability.
Learners will have the option to open Zappar in a web browser or download the app, and some may appreciate the choice. For designing an AR experience, you will use the Zapworks application. It operates in a similar way to developing an interactive eLearning with triggers in Storyline, so if you've had that experience you should be able to learn the program fairly quickly. Otherwise the tutorials will walk you through the basics. Preview your experience and continue to modify it until you get it to behave the way that you want.
