Walden University, an exclusively online higher institution institute, has an enterprise account and uses custom simulation experiences for many different courses. Other well-known clients include Oracle, Kaiser Permanente, Dow, T-Mobile and H&R Block. The company offers a demo of the product before purchasing.
There are many use cases for this simulation platform. Any skill that requires human interaction could benefit from this type of simulation: Health care conversation, sales processes, customer service scenarios, employee reviews, education, HR conversations, interaction with a quality auditor. The different products: Coaching, Live and OnDemand, would each be appropriate for different situations and needs.
In my Instructional Design Frameworks course we were assigned a Mursion Live simulation to practice a client meeting as an independent consultant. The AI avatars represented three roles within the company. We prepared for the scenario ahead of time and then had a 15 minute window to conduct the meeting. Though the options vary based on the company, we were provided with access to the video and a transcript for further reflection and analysis. The simulation itself was not graded by the university, credit was given for participating, but a grade was given for the completion of the prepatroy document and a reflection assignment.
In Mursion Live, Interacting with an AI avatar/human in the background, who is not actually in the role has limitations. They are trained on the scenario, but might not act quite like someone who was actually in the role that they are playing. For some learners it may feel like a safe space for practice, others might find it awkward to talk to animated figures. Because this is a more expensive training solution it is more suited for larger companies with a budget.
I had experience as a user for a live simulation. One feature I appreciated was that in the Live view you could turn off the self-view. This made it more like a regular meeting where I would not be seeing myself. I felt it provided good practice for a client meeting, and I was able to use the notes that I made to know what to say and follow the order. Because the voices were real humans talking in real time, I felt comfortable talking to the avatars, even through it seems a little odd at first to be talking to animated figured. The platform was easy to navigate and there were no issues.
