Bienvenue au Musée!

Fondé par Tehaumate Tetahiotupa (maire de Tahuata, 1977-2001) et l’archéologue Barry Rolett (l’Université d’Hawai'i) en 1987, Te Ana Peua est situé au centre du village de Vaitahu. C’est le premier musée archéologique communautaire des Marquises.

Le musée présente des trésors tels que des hameçons, des herminettes en pierre, des ornements en ivoire de baleine et des aiguilles à tatouer. Ce sont parmi les artefacts reliant directement la population moderne de l'île aux ancêtres qui ont découvert et peuplé Tahuata il y a plus de 800 ans avant.

Welcome to the Museum!

Founded by Tehaumate Tetahiotupa (former Mayor of Tahuata) and archaeologist Barry Rolett (University of Hawai'i) in 1987, Te Ana Peua is located in the center of Vaitahu Village. It is the first community-based archaeology museum in the Marquesas.

The museum features treasures such as fishhooks, stone adzes, whale ivory ornaments and tattooing needles. These are among the artifacts directly linking the island’s modern population to ancestors who discovered and populated Tahuata over 800 years ago.
