Case IJsselheem

IJsselheem is a progressive organization focused on elderly care. With almost 3,000 employees, it works in the regions Zwolle, Kampen, Zwartewaterland. In addition to intramural care at 14 locations, IJsselheem provides district nursing and welfare (day care) and helps clients with treatments and rehabilitation.

IJsselheem offers care, living, rehabilitation and support at home with an eye for everyone's personal story. IJsselheem sees in each person a unique person. Someone with their own values and habits, their own story that they want to hear.

IJsselheem purchased the monumental building of the HBS Kampen and will provide an innovative concept of care there. There will be 44 apartments where people with intensive care needs will live. However ... How the care will take place (what can people do themselves, what can technology do, what can the environment do, what can the care professional do) is still to be determined. IJsselheem does this through co-creation and involves everyone who can and wants to play a role. Deltion College is glad to be involved because this issue is also important for the courses within the school.

In the project week of Team WE in Zwolle, students worked on solutions to issues that exist in realizing the care in the HBS Kampen.

In Case IJsselheem the hackathon was selected as a pedagogical method and one form of design thinking.

But, What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is an event in which teams of participants work non-stop to come up with solutions to presented cases within a short period of time. On a very structured method (a clear roadmap, bounded by time duration), the team goes to work (by constantly diverging and converging), to come up with solutions to the issue. A hackathon can last from half a day to a whole week. In Team WE, we opted for a day and a half. We worked on three cases from health care organization IJsselheem.
