Partner Support in Transitioning (PaST) Study

As more individuals who identify as transgender begin to take hormones and undergo gender-affirming surgeries, it is important to understand how to support them throughout the course of this process. However, very little is known about partner support during and following transitioning and how certain factors may promote or inhibit support.

We are interested in learning more about factors that promote and inhibit partner support during the medical transitioning process so that we can help guide future research and clinical interventions to support transgender individuals through this process.

Currently, we are conducting the PAST study, which interviews individuals who have dated a partner while their partner transitioned medically with the use of hormones or surgery. Interviews focus on factors that helped and inhibited support for their partner during their partner's transition, as well as changes to various relationships in the participant's life during and following the transition.
