Inclusion is at the heart of who we are at Taradale Primary School. We are committed to creating a school where every child feels safe, celebrated and able to thrive.
We welcome and support students and families of all backgrounds, identities and experiences, including diverse cultural, linguistic, family, religious, financial, gender, sexuality and disability backgrounds. We are proud to be a school where diversity is seen, respected and valued.
_________
Inclusion is part of everyday practice at Taradale. We build respectful classrooms, teach the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum, and ensure our policies, school events and communication reflect equity, diversity and belonging.
We draw on approaches such as the Berry Street Education Model and neuroaffirming practices to support student wellbeing, engagement and regulation. Our staff are experienced and continue to engage in ongoing professional learning to ensure we are responsive, inclusive and meeting the needs of all learners.
We work closely with families, allied health professionals and external support services to meet students where they are at and ensure they have the support they need to learn, participate and feel connected.
_________
At Taradale, we celebrate neurodiversity and value the different ways students think, learn and communicate. We take a strengths-based, practical approach to supporting students, including:
Individual plans and adjustments developed in partnership with families and support teams
Classroom supports such as visual prompts, flexible seating, sensory tools, predictable routines and movement breaks, individualised regulation plans
Collaboration with allied health professionals and NDIS providers
Supporting students to understand how they learn best and take an active role in their learning
_________
We have a long and proud history of supporting LGBTIQA+ inclusion and were one of the first schools in Victoria to join the Safe Schools initiative. Our school community includes LGBTIQA+ students, families and staff, and we are committed to ensuring everyone feels seen, respected and supported.
We take a gender-affirming approach, working closely with students and families to develop individual support or gender affirmation plans where needed. This is guided by trusted resources such as Transcend, alongside strong, respectful relationships with families.
You’ll see this reflected across our school, through welcoming signage, our inclusive rainbow flag (donated by the ChillOut Festival), and the way we recognise and celebrate events such as IDAHOBIT and Wear It Purple Day.
_________
We value strong partnerships with families and believe that working together is key to supporting each child. We are always open to conversations and work closely with families to ensure students feel confident, supported and proud to be part of our school.
