What is the Department’s policy?
The Department of Education assesses fire risk annually. Schools are assigned a category (0–6), with Categories 0–3 listed on the Bushfire At-Risk Register. Schools on this register must close on Catastrophic fire danger days.
Who issues fire danger ratings?
Fire danger ratings are issued daily by the Bureau of Meteorology for each fire weather district. These forecasts guide school closures and other safety actions.
