At Taradale Primary School, the wellbeing of every child is at the heart of everything we do. We know that students learn best when they feel safe, supported and connected, and that wellbeing and learning go hand in hand.
We work to create a calm, inclusive and respectful environment where every child feels a strong sense of belonging. Our approach is grounded in strong relationships, knowing our students well and meeting them where they are at.
Our wellbeing team is led by our on-site Wellbeing Worker, Brita Johanson, who works closely with Principal Jess Jensen-Schmidt, Chris Burgess and our Disability Inclusion Co-ordinator, Kristie Lacey. Brita is at school each Tuesday and Wednesday to support students and families, and we warmly encourage families to reach out if they would like support or a conversation.
Our staff draw on approaches such as the Berry Street Education Model and neuroaffirming practices to support emotional regulation, engagement and positive relationships. We continue to build our knowledge through ongoing professional learning to ensure our approach is consistent, inclusive and responsive to student needs.
We also work closely with families, allied health professionals and local services to support student wellbeing. As part of a Wellbeing Community of Practice, we partner with Mount Alexander Shire Council, Cobaw Community Health, School Focused Youth Services, Dhelkaya Health, Bendigo Health, Castlemaine Community House and neighbouring schools to strengthen support across our community.
