Welcome to Taradale Primary School

Welcome to our website, we will continue to add more content and update the site throughout the year

Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung community as the first people of Taradale and the surrounding areas. The Dja Dja Wurrung have been custodians and caretakers of the land and waters for many centuries and continue to perform age old ceremonies of celebration, initiation and renewal. We acknowledge the Jaara people as the custodians of the lands and waters of Taradale and we thank them for the care they have taken of country, the waters, the mountains, trees and animals. We also recognise all other Indigenous people of Taradale.

Taradale Primary School provides a safe and caring school environment where every child's effort and achievements are valued. Parents and carers form an important part of the school community and are encouraged to become involved in school life.

We are a welcoming community school located in a peaceful location with expansive leafy grounds that offer children plenty of room for exploration, learning, play and sport.

The staff at Taradale Primary School recognise the important role they play in each child’s education and aim to provide the necessary skills for students to graduate at the end of year 6 with a life-long love of learning and confident in their own abilities.

Taradale Primary School is an inner regional school located in the Shire of Mount Alexander, approximately 15 minutes from Kyneton and Castlemaine and 25 minutes from Daylesford. The school has been educating local students since 1855, making it one of the oldest schools in the state. The school is very well equipped operating from three buildings: the 1874 built (restored 2019) main building housing 3 classrooms, a staff meeting room and a reception/office area, a circa 1920’s classroom (previously Metcalfe Primary School) and a mod2 portable used as a classroom. The school is structured into four, multi-age classes that come together during the day for various learning experiences. Our school works closely in a Community of Practice with other schools in the Shires of Mount Alexander and Central Goldfields to improve student learning, engagement and teacher practice. We also have a close relationship with four nearby small schools (Chewton, Elphinstone, Langley and Redesdale-Mia Mia), combining for ‘Group Days’ such as joint sporting events, camps and excursions.

Our school hours are 9.00am to 3.30pm. We have three play times during the day: 11.00am -11.30am, 12.30-1.15pm and 2.15pm - 2.30pm. The breaks through the day are a valuable opportunity for the children to relax and refresh their bodies and minds in between formal learning times.

Whilst our school has a uniform that many children choose to wear, it is not compulsory.
