CILS ACADEMIC FAIR: The STEAM and ICT Club
SUMMER CAMP 2024
Theme: “Delving into the Realms of STEAM and ICT in Embarking an Immersive Experiences Filled with Innovation, Creativity, and Digital Wonders”
Typing Contest
Objectives:
Typing helps you improve and learn new skills on a computer or any other device that is keyboard-based. This can help, enhance, and accelerate learning processes.
Categories:
Traditional Typing (Individual)
Participants will be given a printed sample text (a paragraph) in a coupon bond. They must be able to type the whole printed sample within the time limit. [The difference between traditional and speedrun typing is that in traditional typing, players can scroll the sample text to be typed at their own pace.]
Speedrun Typing (Individual)
The sample text (a paragraph) will be displayed on a large monitor (TV), and participants must type what is displayed on the monitor. They will be given a limited time to finish each paragraph to be presented on the monitor to be typed.
Special Category: Traditional Typing through verbal (Trio)
Participants can collaborate and work together with their members. One of the three members of the group must type what is being said (two members serve as a helper to the typer as this will be difficult if handled alone). To avoid deduction of points, the participant(s) should type what is being said completely. Those who have more complete or fewer mistakes will be declared winners for this category.
Time limits:
Under traditional typing contest:
For 200 words, 3 minutes
For 500 words, 5 minutes
Under speedrun typing contest:
There will be no time limit for this category, but whoever finishes first will be declared the winner.
Under traditional typing through verbal contest:
There will be no time limit for this category, but whoever finishes first will be declared the winner.
Rules:
Players should type as many words as cleanly (they have to type without mistakes as much as possible) as they can.
Players will be using a platform/website (https://typer.io) as a means to measure the typing speed of the participants.
There will be an elimination round for each category.
Individual elimination (under speedrun and traditional typing categories) will be done first followed by Group elimination (which is under the special category which is traditional typing through verbal; the multiplayer elimination).
If there will be a tie, then the winner for the contest shall be determined by its WPM/LPM speed (WPM = words per minute; LPM = lines per minute) through the said website/platform to be used for the said contest and accuracy (with regards to spacing, capitalization, spelling, etc). If it can’t be helped, there will be a rematch until there is a declared one winner (either individual [from traditional and speedrun category] or group [from special category].
