SUMMER CAMP 2024
Theme: “Delving into the Realms of STEAM and ICT in Embarking an Immersive Experiences Filled with Innovation, Creativity, and Digital Wonders”
Chess
Objectives:
Beyond its literal and strategic dimensions, chess helps students to gain the psychological mannerism that embodies the concept of thinking ahead, planning, and adapting to changing circumstances. This will also enable the participants to foster sportsmanship and build healthy connections with their opponents.
Target Participants
Elementary (4-6) and Secondary (7-12)
Chess Tournament Mechanics:
The competition is open for all grades 4-12 students.
Maximum of two entries for each grade level are allowed.
All participants must register on or before February 8, 2024. Approach the assigned officer or teacher.
A. TOURNAMENT RULES
The tournament shall be governed by the FIDE Laws of Chess (July 2014) and the following ground
rules:
1. Chess shall be played as open and individual competition in standard events. The Swiss Manager Pairing Program shall be used. There will be two categories: elementary and secondary.
2. Players, coaches and spectators are not allowed to make post-game analysis, play against other coaches, spectators, players or discuss finished or unfinished games within the playing area.
3. Players are not allowed to eat in the playing area while the game is in progress.
4. Players who have finished their games should leave the playing area immediately after submitting their score sheets.
5. Players must observe proper dress code while playing. The use of slippers, short pants and sandos are prohibited.
B. Rules and Guidelines for STANDARD CHESS
Time control shall be 30 minutes for each player to finish the game using the digital clock.
Illegal moves
Major Offenses: Wrong movement of piece, exposing the king to an attack; capturing opponent’s king and non-replacement of piece after pawn promotion.
Minor Offenses: such as using two hands in making a move; displacement of piece/s on the chess board; use of force in pressing the chess clock and non- recording of moves, etc.
3. Penalties
Major Offenses: 1st offense addition of two minutes to the opponent’s time 2nd offense loss of game
Minor Offenses: 1st offense warning, 2nd offense addition of two minutes to the opponent’s time, and 3rd offense loss of game
4. The defaulting time is thirty (30) minutes after the start of each round. The wall clock inside the playing area shall be the official clock during the tournament.
