Crique Sarco has a population of approximately 350 inhabitants. There is no electricity in the village. It is a low lying area partially covered by swamps. It is approximately 19,000 acres in size and has about 60 households. The dominant ethnic group is Q’eqchi’ but there is also a couple of Spanish families. History has revealed that Crique Sarco was once a striving sugar cane and banana producing community and a rose wood cutting industry based on the relics.
The preschool compound is fenced; therefore, it is required that it should have its own playground. Currently, there is an old play house, and posts standing where the slide once used to be. However, the boards have rotten and it is no longer safe for the children to use. Having no playground for outdoor activities will deprive them from physical activities. Also, ministry requests an outdoor zone for preschoolers.
Looking at a playground, assistance is needed both financially and in labor. The materials to be used are quite costly; therefore, we have chosen this project as a priority. The villagers will assist in the cutting of lumber providing that we get some financial contribution. Other materials and tools such as chainsaw, hammer, measuring tape, level, etc. can be borrowed from the community.
Volunteers are welcomed; hospitality will be provided.
This project may take a week to be completed assuming that the board would have been ready.
